attendance

To help your child achieve the most from Dormers Primary School it is important that they maintain high attendance.

The expected attendance rate is 96%

Remember that good attendance benefits your child’s education. Students who miss a day of school not only miss instruction but, must make up work and catch up with the new material at the same time.

Try to schedule doctor and dentist appointments at the beginning or end of the day so that your child does not miss a full day off school

Children will get coughs and colds during the winter, but it does not mean that they need to miss school. Speak with the school Attendance and Welfare officer if your child needs medication or cough drops prescribed by the doctor to be comfortable during the day.

Reminder

Illness and First Day Call, if your child is unable to attend school through illness you should inform us by telephone on the first day of absence before 9.00am. If you do not contact us with this information, we have a duty to contact you so that we may be sure of the child’s whereabouts as this is a safeguarding measure. Where the child is absent through illness or medical appointments this will normally be counted as authorised. Where we have concerns over excessive absence patterns through illness we will need to discuss this in order to gain a better understanding of the problems and to offer support.

If you have any questions please do not hesitate to contact the office to discuss your child’s attendance further.
