Reception

welcome!

Welcome to Reception.

In Reception we build on the foundations laid in nursery and begin to prepare your children for future learning in year 1. We provide the children with a balance of structured adult led learning and the opportunity to explore and develop their play skills.

We follow the Early Years Foundation Stage curriculum and provide opportunities for pupils to develop their skills in the following areas-

·         Personal, social and emotional development

·         Communication and language

·         Physical development

·         Literacy

·         Maths

·         Understanding the world

·         Expressive arts and design

Using carefully selected core books we plan and deliver an exciting and engaging curriculum where all learners are valued and encouraged to flourish. You can learn more about this in the curriculum overview section below. In reception we support your child on their reading learning journey through the teaching of phonics. At DWIJ we follow the Little Wandle Letters and Sounds Revised phonics progression. More information can be found here

School starts at 8:40 and finishes at 3:15.

Each and every day offers the opportunities for fun and learning, it is of the greatest importance children attend school everyday.

We look forward to working with you and your child.

Home Learning

PE Days

Phonics Home Learning is given on Fridays, please spend time with your child revisiting the sounds and words they have covered in class.

All children have a decodable reading book that they must read to a grown up every night. Reading day is Tuesday and a library book is sent home on a Thursday.

Please send your child to school dressed in their PE Kit on THURSDAYS. Information on PE uniform can be found here

It is recommended that your child has sturdy, soled black trainers to avoid injury when making use of the outdoor learning space.
