Christmas is always celebrated with a special roast lunch.
We marked MLK Day with a special theme lunch on Thursday 16th January. Martin Luther King Day takes place on the 20th January. It is a day of remembrance and celebration. This day honours Dr. King’s legacy in striving for equality, justice, and harmony for all, regardless of race.
Celebrating Chinese festival, the beginning of a new year on the traditional lunisolar Chinese calendar. Marking the end of winter and the beginning of Spring, with a themed lunch 30th January. Year of the Snake.
Inspire Me Week immerses our pupils in face-to-face or online sessions with adults from diverse backgrounds and cultures. They will learn about various job roles, the working world, and the barriers professionals have overcome.
June 2023: For Windrush Day we celebrated the passengers on Empire Windrush who docked in Britain 75 years ago. We spent the day making masks, travel brochures, hosting chat shows and having Merwyn Weir, author of ‘I cant breathe’ in to speak about Windrush.
Number Day took place on Friday, 7 February, to support children suffering from abuse or neglect.
Number Day brings us together! This embraces inclusion and diversity by recognising that everyone, no matter their background, has the power to succeed. Together, we make learning count! Just as we count! On our doors we have different words and numbers in different languages.
Each year, we celebrate our place in the global community and the rich diversity of our own school with a bespoke International Day. On this special day, children and staff dress up to represent countries from around the world and take part in a variety of exciting activities, such as cooking, dancing, art, language learning, and drumming.
Dormers Wells students, parents, and staff came together to celebrate International Day on Thursday, 11 July 2024. It was a wonderful opportunity for everyone to showcase their cultures and backgrounds while learning about the incredible diversity within our school. The children truly embraced the spirit of the day, and their vibrant outfits looked absolutely amazing!
Throughout the event, we engaged in meaningful conversations about different cultures, countries, and languages, deepening our appreciation for the world around us. A huge thank you to our parents and helpers for organising such a fantastic event, and to all our students for sharing their cultures with such enthusiasm. It was a truly unforgettable day!
