Year Four is a place where every child feels important, succeeds and aspires to something greater. We believe in our children and challenge them to be ambitious learners, who strive for excellence, achievement and flourish across all aspects of school life.
All homework is marked and new homework is set each Friday.
Spelling – Weekly spellings are tested every Friday. Encourage your child to use their spelling words in sentences (written or oral) to not only show their understanding of the word, but also to build confidence in using the new or challenging vocabulary when writing in English.
In addition to this, children must login to their EdShed to complete further activities for spelling.
SPAG (Spelling, Punctuation and Grammar) – Four questions are set as homework and marked together in class on Friday.
Reading – Children are expected to read for 20 minute every day at home and record their reading in their reading record books.
In addition to this, children are set a comprehension on Reading Eggs to complete by Friday each week.
Maths – Children are asked to complete one to three pages (depending on what has been taught that week) in their Maths homework book. This book needs to be returned to school with the homework completed by Friday.
In addition to this, children need to complete tasks on TTRS and My Maths each week. Also, multiplication tables up to 12 must be learnt off by heart as soon as possible so that by June, children are able to attain a high score in their MTC (Multiplication Tables Check) which is a national test for Year 4 pupils.
Class 4W – PE is on Wednesday and on Thursday (if it is not their turn for swimming).
Class 4A – PE is on Monday and on Thursday (if it is not their turn for swimming).
Class 4W will attend swimming lessons until the end of February half term.
Class 4A will attend swimming lessons after February half term until the end of the summer term.
During swimming, children do not have a PE lesson on Thursday. Children will wear their swimming costume/trunks (shorts) underneath their school uniform and bring their underwear, swimming cap and towel in a bag which will hold their wet costume after the swimming lesson.
